Nairobi Brief Introduction
Nairobi is the capital and largest city of this popular African nation. It is famous for its Nairobi National Park and for having it as a reserved located within a major city.
The word ‘nairobi’ comes from the Maasai phrase ‘enkare Nairobi’ which translates as ‘cool water’. This is the same name of the river in Nairobi itself. At present, the capital is known as “Green City in the Sun” as it is surrounded by expanding villa suburbs (Wikipedia).
The capital city was founded in 1899 by the British colonial authorities in east Africa. When the Republic of Kenya became independent in the 1960s, Nairobi became its capital city.
During the country’s colonial period, Nairobi served as the centre for the colony’s industries including coffee, tea and other products. Businesses and international companies and organizations have grown in the capital.
At present, Nairobi has over 3 million inhabitants and is considered the 14th largest city in Africa.
