Ashgabat City Brief Introduction
Ashgabat, also known as Poltoratsk before, is the capital city and the largest one of Turkmenistan in Central Asia.
There is over 1 million people in this city that is composed of mostly Turkmen and some ethnic minorities of Russians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis among others.
Ashgabat in Persian means "city of love" or "city of devotion" while some scholars noted that the name is from the Parthian era in the 3rd century when the city was founded by the Parthian Empire - Arsaces I of Parthia.
Ashgabat is a young city that is founded in the 19th century. It is now a city with many high-rise residential buildings. The city is establishing buildings using modern development methods.
Ashgabat is the government and administrative center. Around the city, you will also find business centers, ministries and departments, education, research and cultural centers.
The major products of Ashgabat are cotton textiles and metal works. Aside from working in those two industries, most employees work in state institutions and other administrative bodies of the Turkmenistan government. Foreign embassies have foreign workers as well as local citizens.
