Berlin Brief Introduction
Berlin is Germany's largest city and its capital. It is also the second most populous city proper and one among the seven "most populous urban area in the European Union".
Berlin is founded as a multicultural area. The Germanic Swabian and Burgundian tribes, and the Slavic Wends during the pre-Christian period have stayed around.
In the late 17th century, Berlin welcomed French immigrants who escaped from religious persecution. Berlin then became the capital of Prussia and its satellite autonomous cities got merged forming a larger Berlin.
In the 13th century, Berlin was the capital of various powers (or governments) namely the Margraviate of Bradenburg, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, The Weimar Republic and the Third Reich in 1933-45.
When the Second World War ended, the city was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990 led to the unity of the city once again.
During the building of the Berlin Wall after the Second World War, immigrants from Turkey are welcomed to work at the industry sector in West Berlin, while Asian immigrants work for East Berlin. Other groups of people from communist countries and some Russian soldiers form part of Berlin’s multicultural society.
The former East Berlin after the fall of the wall, turned into a cultural center among various sorts of free spirits. Musicians, critics, artists, painters, and all kinds of creative people flocked to express their sense of freedom and not only due to the low cost of living.
The present Berlin is a city of diverse cultures and is now the center of politics, science, media, technology and other basis of economic and financial aspects of a developed city.
Berlin is now a hub for both air and railway traffic. It is also a popular tourist destination not only among Europeans but also visitors from all over the world. Berlin is filled with important industries including information technology, medicine, biotechnology, green technology, construction, electronics and other futuristic technologies and developments.
